To begin the game, you become a Pokémon trainer. Your customizable character comes fully equipped with the essentials, pokéballs, a Pokédex, and a journal. Just like any other game you gain experience points (XP) in order to level up and find new pokémon.

As you explore the augmented reality of the game there are places called Pokéstops where you will find a variety of items which include eggs, Pokéballs, potions, incense, etc. Alongside pokéstops there are gyms where trainers battle other pokémon for the chance to control that location.

  1. Our Top 6 Pokémon Go Spots Around Carrollton
    • Trinity Plaza: Just up and down this area there are pokéstops walking distance from one another. It’s also close to our office!Pokestops around Josey Lane Dentistry
    • Josey Ranch Lake Public Library: Not only can you reach 4 pokéstops and a gym while inside the library, there’s free wifi! This location is great for finding water type pokémon.
    • Hebron & Josey Library: There are tons of gyms and stops at this location.
    • Addison Circle: Tons of rare pokémon including Dragonair, Kabuto, and Omanyte have been spotted here.
    • Huffines Tennis Center: Although Richardson is a bit of a drive it is definitely worth it! There’s a high Charmander spawn rate here.
    • The Shops at Legacy: This shopping center in Plano is packed with tons of stops and some people have even found a Dratini here.
  2. Get to Walking The game requires you to walk certain distances to hatch eggs which yield pokémon. The whole point of Pokémon Go is getting up, getting active, and interacting with players. But if you’re a total lazy bum attaching your phone to a ceiling fan or a record player will give you the same result as walking. Some people even offer to run with your phone for a small fee!

  3. Keep the Game Open When you lock your screen your app doesnt work. You can put your phone on “battery saver” mode to continue to play while your screen is dimmed.
  4. Rare Pokémon Love High Levels As you gain levels you are able to catch more rare Pokémon. The new Pokémon Go is an augmented reality game. Sounds fancy right? Actually all this means is that the game world overlays directly into our world.
  5. Know the Difficulty of Catching Wild Pokémon The shrinking colored circle that appears when encountering wild Pokémon shows how difficult it will be to catch them. With green being pretty easy and red being the most difficult.
  6. Don’t Forget Your Portable Charger This game drains your battery ridiculously fast, and the worst thing is going out Pokémon hunting only to find that you are out of battery.
  7. Turn off AR Turning off augmented reality makes catching pokémon easier because you don’t have to worry about aiming your phone camera. You can do this when catching wild pokémon by switching the AR toggle off in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
  8. Get a Pikachu as Your Starter Pokémon When you first start the game instead of choosing one of the three pokémon near you as your starter pokémon keep walking around until the pokémon respawn about 4 times. The fourth time a fourth option, Pikachu, should appear.
  9. Analyze Your Pokémons’ Moves Even if you catch two of the same pokémon with similar cp (combat power) their attacks can be different. Choose the one with the better moveset because better moves are more powerful and you can always makeup CP point later
  10. Understand Egg Hatching this handy infographic will break it down for you trainers out there.
  11. Know How Many Miles You Need to Walk 2km=1.6mi, 5km=3.1mi, 10km=6.2mi
  12. Throw Curve Balls When catching pokémon throwing curveballs helps you gain more XP. Basically, you tap the ball, hold it, and spin it around clock- or counterclockwise until it sparkles. Once it’s shining up, toss it and boom!
  13. Use The Proper Tools to Catch Rare Pokémon Make catching rare or powerful pokémon easier by feeding them razz berries and using a stronger pokéball (great balls and ultra balls)
  14. Gain XP Fast You can do this by catching multiple low-level pokémon and feeding them enough candy for multiple evolutions at once.
  15. Transfer Pokémon For Candy Get one candy by transferring pokémon to professor Willow. Tap a Pokémon in the menu, scroll all the way down, and tap transfer. Keep in mind you won’t get these pokémon back!
  16. Know How Much XP You Get  pokemongobreakdown
  17. Find More Water Type Pokémon Catch more diverse pokémon by getting close to the water; water pokémon tend to spawn near bodies of water such as lakes or oceans.
  18. Increase Your Chances of Catching Wild Pokémon Throw your pokéball when the green inner ring is the smallest. The only downside to this is your aim matters! Make sure you make it inside the green circle
  19. Play Smarter Not Harder Hit pokéstops effectively not conveniently. These stops reset every few minutes so it’s best to go to a place with tons of stop and consecutively hit all of them and then turn around for a second run.
  20. Diversify the Wild Pokémon you Catch playing at different times means catching different pokémon and typically more rare pokémon spawn in the evening.
  21. Catch Every Pokémon Every Chance You Get You’re probably tired of catching the same Zubat or Pidgey but it’s actually very helpful. Not only do you gain XP, you can also exchange the unwanted pokémon for candy from Professor Willow.
  22. Don’t Waste Your Items if you don’t have 30 minutes to get the full experience of a lure or incense just wait and drop it when you do.
  23. Find Every Gym and Pokéstop Near You the creators of Pokémon Go are not new to the augmented reality gaming. They previously created a game called Ingress. This is important because all pokéstops and gyms run off of the same map that ingress used so sign up for the game (even if you don’t intend on playing) and start planning your next route!
  24. Do Catch Wild Pokémon When Carpooling if you aren’t behind the wheel you can always spend the time in the passenger seat catching pokémon. This is perfect when you take an Uber or Lyft around town.
  25. Decide What Your Eevee Evolves Into you might have caught an Eevee and have noticed it has three possible outcomes when you evolve it. All you need to do is rename the Eevee, restart the game, and evolve the Eevee.
    • Sparky for Jolteon
    • Rainer for Vaporeon
    • Pyro for Flareon
  26. Know Who Default Gym Leaders Are Whoever has the combined combat power becomes the default gym leader who you will then face last at gyms.
  27. Battles Are Not Turn Based Unlike older versions of pokémon, battling is in real time. You swipe to dodge attacks, tap to attack, and tap and hold for special attacks.
  28. Deposit Pokémon at Your Team’s Gym Before you leave a gym, leave a pokémon to gain some coins and stardust that you can use to evolve pokémon and by things in the shop with.
  29. Gain Full Health After Evolutions Even if your pokémon gets knocked out in a gym battle, you can evolve them for fully restored health.
  30. Name Your Pokémon You can go to your pokémon and click the pen icon next to their name to rename them. Now you can name your pokémon anything you like!
