Invisalign

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of braces that uses clear tray aligners. The aligners are made out of a special type of plastic, made by the Invisalign company, from molds of your mouth. The solid plastic pieces are strong enough to put pressure on your teeth and slowly move them into the right area. Invisalign’s main draw is that it is strong enough to work as traditional braces, but much more comfortable, and of course, less noticeable. They need to be worn most of the day, but are removed for eating, and brushing/flossing.

The process of getting Invisalign begins with a visit to your dentist. The dentist will examine the over all shape of your mouth and oral health, and how your jaw comes together. After your dentist takes molds of your mouth, they will be sent to the Invisalign company to produce the aligners with a custom fit. After they are sent to your dentist’s office, your dentist will create an over all treatment plan. Invisalign has obvious advantages over traditional braces due to flexibility and added comfort.

Paying for Invisalign

The biggest issue most patients have with getting this treatment is paying for it. It costs anywhere from 3000 to 7000 dollars. Traditional metal braces, on the other hand, usually cost 2000 to 6000 dollars.

The main factors influencing the price of Invisalign are the following:

  • How much your insurance will cover.
  • Your oral health, tooth formation, and how much total work is required. Highly crooked teeth and/or a major overbite or underbite will increase the amount of work needed, and thus the cost.
  • Dentist’s time for labor.
  • Prices in your area.

Ways to pay

Payment plans

Many dental offices offer payment plans. You can often pay for a single treatment over the course of several months. For extremely high-cost procedures, you may be able to set up a monthly payment scheme, sometimes with interest.

Dental schools

Dental colleges offer cheaper care options. This is in exchange for being worked on by students who have less experience than professional dentists. However, at any dental school, a board-certified dentist will oversee any procedure that patients receive.

Health savings account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

This is an options some employers offer. It lets you set aside a pre-tax amount of money from your paycheck to be spent on medical procedures. An HSA or FSA often comes with a special debit card that can be spent on procedures. An HSA lets money saved on this account to be rolled over into a new year, while an FSA does not.

Children’s health insurance program (CHIP) and medicaid

You will need to bring a case to your insurance representative. Work with your dentist to do this, and you can qualify for help to cover the cost of braces, Invisalign, or other procedures.

Is Invisalign right for you?

Invisalign can be used in various cases, including:

  • Teens, children, and others whose teeth are still growing in and forming. Invisalign is a more comfortable treatment than braces.
  • Crowded teeth. Whether you are an adult or child, teeth that are too close together can be treated with Invisalign.
  • Overbite, underbite, or crossbite. When your jaw doesn’t come together correctly, Invisalign can help match your teeth together.
  • Gap teeth. Teeth that are too far apart can be adjusted with
  • When your teeth are generally straight, but you want them to match together perfectly. Make your smile as good as it can be.
