Great 2017 Holiday Gift Hacks

The season’s holidays are all right around the corner, and the number of people on your list seems to grow by the day.

Between the stress of buying gifts for those who seem to have it all, and for the children who really don’t need another toy in their overflowing playrooms, it’s easy for the Grinch in all of us to make an appearance.

To ease your burden, and simplify your Google searches, we’ve come up with ideas for every person on your list!

Take your stress out of gift shopping in 2017

For kids with no room for more toys

The thought of bringing in NEW toys to an already-crowded house can easily raise a parent’s anxiety level. If you didn’t have time to purge this year to make room for the gifts that are sure to roll in, consider giving a gift that takes up no room: an experience! Here are some ideas for the best experiences in the metroplex for kids of all ages:

  • For the little ones: Think of the gift of exercise to wear out the toddler in your life. Places like the Little Gym or Gymboree offer the opportunity to exhaust your little Energizer Bunny throughout the cold, winter months. Hello, nap time!
  • For elementary-age: A zoo or aquarium membership (either in Dallas or Fort Worth) is a gift that keeps giving over and over again for the whole family. Memberships generally come with perks (like discounts on food or souvenirs) that are enticing to adults, too!
  • For teenagers: Season tickets to Six Flags or the Dallas Summer Musicals are fun for even the fussy adolescent. There is no way your teens will think you’re lame with these tickets.
  • For grown-up kids: Consider gifting your older kids a staycation. If they have their own little ones, offer to watch them overnight to let your children get a full night of rest—or even a date night. You can easily shop deals for great hotels all over the city.

For parents who have everything

Ugh, buying for your parents…If they don’t have something they want, they’ll just buy it for themselves. It’s even harder when they say they want nothing this Christmas. We at Josey Lane have decoded their mumbo jumbo to ensure holiday cheer for all this holiday season.

  • Professional photos: Arrange for a professional photographer to take photos of the whole extended family, then print and frame some for hanging in their home. No matter how old you are, parents always love to show off their kids.
  • Time: Your parents most likely pine for the days where their family was all under one roof. Set aside a weekend where you can all hang out together uninterrupted. Put down the cell phones, and bust out the board games.
  • Family cookbook: If your parents are home-chefs with recipes strewn on index cards, or not even strewn down at all, compile a professionally-made book with some favorite recipes. Take this gift to the next level by including memories associated with each meal, or a picture of the family together at the dinner table.

Your spouse

Why is buying something for significant others the hardest? Shouldn’t you know them the best, and be able to pick the gift that even they didn’t realize they wanted?

  • A subscription box: The market is flooded with hundreds of choices of monthly subscription boxes that range from razors to socks, and gourmet chocolates to beauty products. The most romantic part is that they get a little surprise in the mail every month!
  • Gift card to a restaurant: Giving a gift card shouldn’t be considered unthoughtful or last-minute. Consider picking a restaurant that is a splurge, and that you would never consider visiting on your typical Saturday night. Since you already bought the gift card, you can’t change your mind in March about treating yourselves to a special date night.
  • Espresso machine: Ditch the coffee shop habit and indulge in homemade lattes and mochas. The gift is perfect for the coffee lover…or the morning hater.

Don’t let holiday shopping stress you out. With these out of the box ideas, your list has hopefully shortened significantly. Another bonus: these gifts will be such a hit that you won’t have to return to the mall on the 26th to make returns!
