One of the benefits of living in such a thriving metroplex is the numerous opportunities you have to attend both amateur and professional sports. Especially after the Olympics when we are all invested in our team or interested in seeing more sporting events live, living in the DFW area affords us the chance to see our favorite stars.
From the more well-known sports like basketball and football to those that draw a smaller crowd like curling, we’ve compiled a list of events that you and your family can attend nearby Carrollton this spring!
Football
Being in Texas, football is king. However, getting tickets and parking to a Cowboys game can be prohibitively expensive. If you’re still longing to see a game in person, head out to a Dallas Defenders game. This team is made up of Dallas police officers, fire fighters, and other public safety professionals who play full contact football to raise money for the families of fallen officers. Past seasons have been played in the spring and the best part: admission to all home games is free! This team has a solid winning record, so be prepared for a great experience.
Another benefit of living in this area is the access to great high school football. Many of our local players go on to start for college teams and some even make it to the NFL! While games don’t start until August, keep this in the back of your mind as a family-friendly Friday night out.
Baseball
Football better watch out because the metroplex is quickly becoming a baseball town. With four professional baseball teams in this area there is undoubtedly something for everyone. First, our major league team, The Texas Rangers are based in Arlington and have already begun playing games at spring training. Be on the lookout for the home opener on March 29.
If you’re looking for something a little more laid back, then try out one of the three minor league team’s games: the Grand Prairie AirHogs, the Fort Worth Cates, and the Frisco Roughriders. We know the summer heat can be unbearable, so check out the lazy river at the Roughrider’s stadium for the ultimate way to cool down.
Racing
Get your adrenaline pumping with the sound of engines revving at the Texas Motor Speedway. This spring the speedway will be hosting a Sprint Car Series race and a World Truck Series Race. These events can be loud, so make sure to bring your hearing protection!
Basketball
For a few weeks in March most people become basketball fans during the NCAA tournament. March Madness comes to Dallas this year with round one and two games being played at the American Airlines Center on March 15 and 17. Teams have not yet been determined, but we can guarantee will be fun no matter what!
Curling
With the Americans taking gold at the Olympics, this little-known sport has spiked in popularity. The Dallas/ Fort Worth Curling Club offers the opportunity to both learn the sport as well as the chance to watch tournaments hosted by the club. Curling is a social sport that encourages comradely and merriment, so the tournaments and normally full of food and drink. If you are looking to learn a new sport (and one that doesn’t send you hurdling off a ski jump or half pipe), look no further than curling. This curling club all the equipment, so just bring yourself and a good attitude!
We love to learn more about sporting events hosted in our area. Let us know what is on the horizon and we will update our list!
