Being thankful in Carrollton Texas in 2020
Despite an ongoing international pandemic, and a year that has been rough to everyone over all, there is so much to be thankful about. Carrollton is having several events, in-person and virtual, for those of you who wish to give thanks for the good things they have this year. This year has seen some truly historic shifts and events. Whether it’s been a land hurricane over the Midwest, massive fires in the West (and Australia), or the advent of murder hornets, 2020 has kept everyone on their toes. Fortunately, most of us are still happy, healthy, working, and have a roof over our heads. And for all the bad things that might have happened this year, there were some good things too. So, if you are looking to give thanks in and around the area this year, we’ve made a list of places to go and things to do.
This year there aren’t as many Thanksgiving events in order to control the spread of COVID-19, but there are holiday events lined up starting in December.
COVID-19 Note
Thanks to the ongoing respiratory pandemic, it’s advised not to congregate in large groups this year. If that is necessary, then it should be with proper distancing measures. Remember:
- Wear a mask when indoors. It’s a good idea to wear one outdoors as well when there are large groups. This virus is spread by small droplets of water, which are abundant in our breath. Wearing a mask protects you by filtering those out from the air you breathe. It also protects others by catching droplets of water that will be exiting your mouth and nose.
- Keep a safe distance. Usually a distance of about 6 feet is ideal. This prevents you from breathing in concentrated water droplets from other people’s breath.
- Have smaller gatherings. Part of the joy of the holidays is seeing your loved ones. Well, this year, you will have to get creative. Do a video chat with your extended family, find something you can do together without being together. If you are having a gathering, try to limit it to as small an amount of people as possible to prevent disease spread.
Carrollton Texas Thanksgiving and Holiday Events
Saturdays on the Square
Every second Saturday of the month, there is this outdoor event in downtown Carrollton. Come see live performances of Christmas tunes and enjoy some time outside. There will also be a Christmas gift wrapping station.
This event is held outdoors, so social distance can be maintained.

Christmas at the Perry
The A.W. Perry Homestead is having it’s Christmas festivities. The area will be decked out with lights and holiday settings. Gravely park will also have its holiday finery on, and will be a fantastic place to walk through. Although this year will look a little different, it’s a fine time to come and walk through the area (you can stay outside). Some of the rooms will be open in the Homestead, allowing visitors to see what Santa’s workshop looks like.
Date and time: December 3rd, 10th, and 17th. 5:30-8:30pm.
Santa at the Square
Don your hats and take your stockings, Santa will be visiting Carrollton. This outdoor event will be a bit smaller this year for social distancing, but you can still do a Zoom call with Santa! Visitors can still register for an in-person 5-minute time slot with Santa.
Other events will include an ugly sweater contest, and a scavenger hunt. The sweater contest receives submissions all week, while the hunt will be app based and available on November 28th.
